LHSCC 2014 END OF SUMMER UPDATE
SUMMER TRAINING IS COMING TO AN END. We have had our best summer totals ever, with dozens of runners (old and new) attending daily, voluntary training. These runners have logged (hopefully literally) as many as 300 miles in the past 10 weeks. And in the process, they have established the habits of serious endurance athletes, including: "chowing like a champion", "hydrating or else", "ice, ice baby" etc. Speaking of cliches, we have OUR NEW MOTTO FOR LHSCC 2014! (We don't have a slogan, because we don't do anything slow)
The cost may be great but the reward is greater!
THE END OF SUMMER TRAINING means THE BEGINNING OF THE REGULAR CROSS COUNTRY SEASON

WHAT HAPPENS IN CAMP...
21 of LHSCC 2014's runners attended 5 days of team camp at Appalachian State University in Boone NC. Let's just say their stay included bridges, Frisbees, firetowers, the dreaded "Carolina Tracker", strings, cow patties, yoga, hula hoops, microphones, the Samba, late night confessionals, picnics and over 40 miles of the best training of the summer. In fact, Active.com named our Thursday morning run one to the 10 most scenic in America! Really. CONGRATULATIONS to Weston Warncke and Evan Ibarra, whose jokester juggler (or is it juggling jokester) and sincere rendition of "Ave Maria" respectively earned them awards at the annual camp talent show. Also CONGRATULATIONS to our new JUNIOR CAPTAINS: Sarah Breeden and Davis Stockwell. Special Thanks to Coach Baker, Coach Rivers and Carsen Pastirik for their sacrifices to be part of another successful start to the season.
COACH'S TIP: GET READY!
Cross country has a reputation as the "sport that doesn't cut anybody" While there is some truth to that statement, and certainly LHSCC prides itself on its inclusiveness; the reality is that this sport does its own cutting. What is required to train and compete in cross country, at all levels, is a total commitment, EVERYDAY, to a new and demanding lifestyle focused on you achieving at your very highest levels. Expectations that are enforced by our coaches, team leaders and teammates. So... if you are ready for the most challenging, demanding, rewarding, life-affirming, life-changing experience (the adjectives go on and on) of your young life...
SEE YOU MONDAY! (August 4 at 8am at LHS Track. Because that is the first day of practice, remember....Get Ready! and Get There Early if you have paperwork to turn in!
