LHSCC 2014 WEEKLY RUN LOG #3…from Coach Barbe

Print this out and put it on your refrigerator…

VIKING NIGHT is this TUESDAY, AUGUST 19 at 7pm in the LHS Cafeteria. This is our one and only Booster Club Meeting of the season. It is a chance to meet the coaches, learn about LHSCC and find out how you, too, can participate in our tradition of champions! Please bring your checkbooks so that you can join the Booster Club and please come prepared to find a way to donate your time as well. See you there!

THE BIG PEACH RUNNING COMPANY will have a representative at our meeting to talk about cross country shoes, choices, purchases, and accessories. So get your questions ready now!

THE COACH’S COMMUNITY CHALLENGE is off to a fast start. Congratulations and thanks to Coach Pastirik and everyone who joined him Saturday Morning for the Lekotek 4 mile race. And thanks for everyone’s hard work on the DHMS trail also on Saturday. Just like running is making a positive change in our individual lives, we can make a positive change in the world around us. That’s the challenge!

CONGRATULATIONS to Morgan Mihalis for her strong race as the top female finisher at Saturday’s Leafmore 5K

OUR FIRST INVITATIONAL is this SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 at the Bill Blastow EARLY BIRD at the Clinton Preserve in Douglas County. See the “Directions” tab on the website to get…directions. Runners should meet Saturday am in the upper parking lot of LHS before 6am. We cannot hold the bus for late arrivals! The trip is about 90 mins. There is a $5 parking fee for all spectators

SATURDAY’S RACE TIMES ARE

8:45am BOYS VARSITY (8 runners) 9:10am GIRLS VARSITY (8 runners) 9:40am BOYS JV (8runners) 10:10am GIRLS JV (8 runners) 10:50am OPEN (ALL other runners)

We should return to Lakeside around 2pm

ROSTERS for Saturday’s races will be announced before uniforms are distributed on Thursday

UNIFORMS will be distributed at the end of Thursday’s practice. So you don’t want to miss it

OUR FIRST TIME TRIAL is this WEDNESDAY at Druid Hills Middle School. This time trial will be the first time that we will run the DeKalb County course and record times. These times will be used to rank runners and help make decisions about which race runners enter. (Its time to start getting those competitive juices flowing!) This is also our first practice off campus. We will need approx. 6 volunteer adult drivers to take team members to and from Druid Hills MS. We will meet in the upper parking lot at 3:30 and return around 6. Volunteers can sign up at Viking Night on Tuesday. Training at DHMS is an advantage for LHSCC, but we need your help to make it happen.

COACH’S TIP: BETTER! This is my favorite word, at least when it comes to training. Because training is a process, in this case a literal progress forward. Each day, with each practice and each good choice about nutrition, hydration, and rest we are getting stronger, faster, leaner, smarter… better. And you can’t get any better than that, can you? So when coach asks “How ya doin?”, hopefully you will be able to answer “better!”
